I recently read in a national publication that reading was making a comeback.
How did reading make a comeback? Reading never left.
As an avid reader, author, and fiction coach, I can tell you that books have been where they’ve always been. In bookstores, libraries, and being swapped between friends.
With the advancement of book technology, though, books are coming back to the forefront of people’s minds. In today’s digital world, the use of ebooks and audiobooks mean every book is literally at your fingertips. Whether you’re working out, riding the bus, or waiting in the school pick-up line, there’s an entire library waiting to be explored.
Amongst the people in my own book club, at least half of us make use of audiobooks while commuting or working. Several prefer the feel of actually turning pages, and others (myself included) like the convenience of reading electronically through apps and e-readers. Everywhere I go, the latest book I’m reading is with me.
Did books go away? Absolutely not. They’re stronger and better than ever now that we have the tools to reach a wider audience.
